Hits and Misses of the BAFFL Draft – Mid-year Edition

Round 1

Hit: K. Walker (P2) – Voldemorts

Kenneth is the RB11 in the NFL after 8 weeks, and that’s even after missing 2 games and putting up a dud in Week 8. At 24 years old he’s reaching the peak age for an NFL RB and will likely command a draft pick from a struggling BAFFL GM in the off-season.

Honorable Mention: M. Evans (P11) – Hogz

Miss: P. Mahomes (P9) – Tornados

In the offseason, many pundits were concerned with Mahomes’ lack of weapons and that a lack of production from their offense would lead to the Chiefs’ downfall. Turns out they were only partially wrong because even though Mahomes is QB23 after 8 weeks, KC is still undefeated. #NFLRigged

Dishonorable Mention: T. Kelce (P5)

Round 2:

Hit: D. Swift (P6) – Tornados

There were some great selections in Round 2 from multiple GMs. However, you can’t argue with getting the RB16 in BAFFL. Swift had a tough start to the year, but has really started take off with the Bears offense coming into form under Caleb Williams.

Honorable Mentions: M. Nabers (P11) – Cheeks, G. Kittle (P14) – Angry Birds

Miss: A. Richardson (P9) – BIG GUYs

Not only is Richardson having a record-setting year in quarterback inefficiency, but he’s also battled injury as is being replaced by a QB who was drafted in the same year that Iron Man and GTA IV came out. Worst part is, the BIG GUYs probably could’ve waited at least 2 more rounds to burn this pick.

Dishonorable Mention: Z. White (P5) – Mystics

Round 3:

Hit: K. Pitts (P14) – Dawgpound

This was a relatively mediocre round for the 2024 BAFFL draft. Pitts is the round 3 selection not because he is currently the TE4 after 8 weeks, but because of the BAFFL-wide lack of expectation around him. It took a lot of balls to select Pitts after many letdown years.

Miss: T. Dell (P7) – Sharks

There could have been many other misses here, but Tank is the miss of round 3 because of the other WR talent taken after him. Smith, Higgins, McLaurin – all playing much better than him. Perhaps there’s some Round 4-shadowing in here…

Round 4:

Hits: The Jaydens Reed (P11) and Daniels (P12)  – Voldemorts and Wolves

Jayden is no longer the name for the edgy teenager hanging out at a Bluenotes or a Boathouse in Place D’Orleans. Instead it is a name reserved for elite athletes on the NFL field. Reed is WR6 despite having Malik Willis throwing to him half the time, and Daniels had managed to revive a Commanders offense that finished 24/25th the last four years and dead last in 2019.

Honorable Mention: B. Robinson Jr. (P14) – Tooners

Miss: G. Edwards (P9) – BIG GUYs

There were  several great picks in Round 4. In fact, all the healthy players from Round 4 are still on their original rosters, or at least produced at a high level until they got hurt. Everyone except Gus. Welcome to the BAFFL RB wasteland, Mr. Edwards.

Round 5-11 (Lightning edition)

Round 5: Hit – B. Bowers (Tooners), Miss – J. Warren (Wolves)

Round 6: Hit – B. Thomas Jr. (Hogz), Miss – B. Corum (Cheeks)

Round 7: Hit – C. Hubbard (Mystics), Miss – H. Brown (Lords)

Round 8: Hit – B. Irving (Tornados), Miss – C. Samuel (Tornados)

Round 9: Hit – J. Mason (Hogz), Miss – Dropping J. Mason (Hogz)

Round 10: Hit – T. Tracy (Mystics) & T. Bigsby (Sharks)

Round 11: Hit – Chargers Defense? (Karps), Miss – Literally everyone
