Welcome to the first entry of commissioner’s corner where I will attempt to be more transparent about league proceedings and provide insight into everything BAFFL. I thank you baffl.ca for providing me with a platform to keep you in the loop.
1. BAFFL.ca will be your premiere source for BAFFL
There have been posts about keeper predictions, mock drafts, and now the first commissioner’s corner post. Baffl.ca will also be updated regularly to state the weekly winners of prizes and I’m hoping to do a new piece where I “try to beat the predictions” by calling potential upsets weekly in BAFFL. This will obviously be GM Begin making the predictions and not commissioner Begin to ensure picks are not bias.
2. GMs are stepping up.
It’s no secret that I’m having trouble keeping it in my pants and have had 3 kids over the last 6 years. My content and league proceedings has decreased over that time. I’ve appreciated people stepping up to make interesting content and those that have helped with league specific roles. Here are those people in their new roles:
Devan: League treasurer and Draft Guru. James has stepped down from league treasurer and Devan will assume full responsibilty. Devan has also picked up the slack for me on creating the draft board / organizing picks and trades with the help of Brent.
Adib: League philantropist. Adib has taken on the creation and administration of the random weekly prizes.
AJ: League Bookie. AJ has also taken on the league weekly prizes in the form of suicide picks.
The league also thanks everyone in the background who has helped with content, organization, or event hosting. BAFFL is stronger together.
3. Are we switching the sleeper?
There has been a surge in interest in joining the new platform. Everyone has joined and we’re ready to make the switch. There will be a formal vote at the draft. The sleeper platform has been much more flexible with rules / formatting but we would lose the detailed history that we have on yahoo. Take a look at the platform before the draft and let us know your thoughts then.
4. Welcome Mike!
While we lost a former champion and an amazing friend in Jamie, we regained a friend in Mike who has been active in making the league more fun already. Welcome back Mike.
5. Future rule changes?
There hasn’t been any formal requests in making new rule changes but here are some of the many things I’ve heard about over the years:
– 1 less bench spot: The waiver wire is bare and with 1 less bench spot people are hoping there would be more playable players on the wire.
– 1 more flex or WR spot: It’s no secret that RBs are coveted in BAFFL. While switching to half ppr did increase the value of WRs slightly the fact that only 2 WRs and 2 RBs need to be started places an increased need on RB depth. This was amplified when we switched to 14 members.
– Defensive positional players: I’ve heard 1 or 2 members mention things about defensive position players replacing team defenses. I don’t know much about this stance.
Feel free to submit other league rule change ideas to me for future commissioner’s corner write-ups. We’re just under 2 weeks away from the BAFFL draft. See you all then.
