BAFFL Nation – we keep reminding you how fast it’s approaching, but even we can’t believe the BAFFL draft is less than two weeks away! As you likely noticed, the Commish has been granted posting permission on BAFFL.ca – he beat our staff in releasing the first mock draft, but he also plans to post content on BAFFL.ca throughout the season – so stay tuned to this space for exciting announcements as the season approaches!
I want to take a moment to assure our loyal readers that the journalistic integrity of BAFFL.ca will be upheld, and while we appreciate the Commish making time to update BAFFL fans on this space, we will not be unduly glazing the league office, and will continue with hard-hitting investigative journalism when required. We are also seeking to provide a diverse array of opinions and perspectives here on BAFFL.ca, so if you are interested in becoming a contributor, please send a CV and writing sample to the Sharks GM, who will pass it on to the staff at BAFFL.ca
With that said, onto the mock draft! While we can’t claim to be the first, we will be the best, and feature the least amount (not none – we’re not crazy) of propaganda to give our readers the straight goods.
Pick 1 – Pepsiland Nordiques
Keepers: Henry, Pacheco
Pick: Marvin Harrison Jr.
Analysis: The youth movement is in full swing in Pepsiland, and with a young RB already locked up, the Nordiques select their franchise WR with the first overall pick. With this pick, the Nordiques are poised to move on from their dynamic duo for the past decade, and hope to get a decade out of their new core.
Pick 2 – Voldemorts
Keepers: Kamara, Joe Mixon
Pick: Deebo Samuel
Analysis: He traded for one niners receiver but ends up taking the other after Nick releases him back into the draft (“why would I keep a WIDE RECEIVER?!?! They are a dime a dozen!!” – Nick, probably). This suits GM Adib perfectly after bolstering his keepers with a second running back.
Pick 3 – Wolves
Keepers: Lamb, St. Brown
Pick: Kenneth Walker III
Analysis: Absolutely no chance Bob passes on a running back here and rolls the dice in the second round. Bob takes Kenny W here to shore up the RB spot, and look for him to draft Zach Charbonnet well ahead of ADP to secure at least one RB1ish player on a team that runs the ball pretty well.
Pick 4 – Cheeks
Keepers: Nacua, Robinson
Pick: Chris Olave
Analysis: GM AJ could go in a few different directions here but he takes the best player available in Chris Olave. The pick shores up the WR1/2 spots for the Cheeks to compliment star RB Robinson. With a ton of picks in this draft – we also wouldn’t be totally surprised if AJ moves around here or elsewhere depending on how his draft board is looking at the time.
Pick 5 – Lords of the Valley
Keepers: Williams, Mahomes
Pick: Travis Kelce
Analysis: Nick is a sucker for names and there’s no bigger name on the board than Travis Kelce. Ever since the departure of Gronk the Lords have been searching for that stud TE, to no avail. The Lords get their man here, if only for a year or two.
Pick 6 – BIG GUYS / GORILLA GORILLA GORILLA
Keepers: Cook, Wilson
Pick: Jonathon Brooks
Analysis: This is the first year in the last 4 where a rookie RB doesn’t go #1 overall, and while it makes sense in a bit of a down class, there’s no way the top rook slides past #6. GM Pearno goes off the board – playing it safe has gotten him nowhere, and he looks to recreate the BIG GUY magic of drafting Kareem Hunt way off the board and reaping the massive rewards.
Pick 7 – Creek Crossing ZenSharks
Keepers: Hall, Gibbs
Pick: Drake London
Analysis: London broke out last year, and that was with Desmond Ridder at QB. With Kirk Cousins at the helm, London could take a quantum leap into the upper echelon of fantasy WRs this year. The Sharks pick the high-end WR to complement their RB keeper duo.
Pick 8 – Naature Triil Angrrs
Keepers: Taylor, Achane
Pick: Nico Collins
Analysis: Another player with both RBs locked and loaded, the birbs opt to take the best player available and get their WR1. Collins was finally healthy last year and put up huge numbers, and while the WR room is a bit crowded with Diggs and Tank Dell, that doesn’t scare off the birbs GM who is a firm believer in the talent.
Pick 9 – Thresher Tornados
Keepers: Jefferson, Etienne Jr.
Pick: D’Andre Swift
Analysis: Only 2 RBs drafted in the top 8? What is this madness! The RB run starts here – the Tornados go back to the well and reunite with RB Swift – a player who they know quite well. As the lead dog in a new offense, the ceiling for Swift is much higher than a lot of the other RBs in this range, though the floor might be lower as well learning a new offense with a rookie QB.
Pick 10 – Moustache Mystics
Keepers: Chase, LaPorta
Pick: Aaron Jones
Analysis: Another player reuniting with a past GM after joining a new team. Aaron Jones has the backfield to himself in Minnesota, a team that figures to run the ball a lot with Sam Darnold / JJ McCarthy at the helm. The Mystics go with the devil they know and hope that Jones still has some gas left in him.
Pick 11 – Battle Hogz
Keepers: Brown, Hill
Pick: David Montgomery
Analysis: The hogz are desperate for RB help here and again go with the familiar face in David Montgomery. While he’s likely to cede a lot of the work to Gibbs this year, Montgomery still figures to be the goal line back and will still see a decent amount of volume. At this point in the draft, you aren’t getting a workhorse back on a good offense, and GM Corey could do worse than getting Montgomery here.
Pick 12 – AA Magikarps
Keepers: McCaffrey, White
Pick: Cooper Kupp
Analysis: The Karps GM is nothing if not loyal to his guys, and while Nacua has emerged as a star for the rams, he did so with Kupp on the sidelines for most of the year. Kupp could still very well be the WR1 on the Ram’s offense, and the Karps are betting the connection with Stafford is strong enough for Kupp to reclaim his status among the fantasy greats.
Pick 13 – Nature Trail Angry Birdz
Keepers: Taylor, Achane
Already picked: Nico Collins
Pick: Mark Andrews
Analysis: The only pick the Commish and I agree on. With two RBs locked up and their WR1 secured, the birbs can seek to lock in a positional advantage at TE all season long with Mark Andrews, who when healthy could be more valuable than even Kelce this season.
Pick 14 – Delamere Dawgpound
Keepers: Adams, Jacobs
Pick: James Conner
Analysis: The Dawgpound go back to back at the 1-2 turn, and expect at least one of those players (if not both) to be a RB. The defending champs lock in Conner – who has the backfield all to himself on what should be an improved offense. Injuries and age are a concern, but again at this point in the draft you’re not getting a player with no downside.
Bonus – Pick 17 – Crotch Crickets
Keepers: Hurts, Barkley
Pick: Najee Harris
Analysis: The Crickets traded away their third round pick – and they absolutely need to go RB here or they’ll be starting the season with Ty Chandler in their starting lineup. While I’m sure the Cricket’s GM would love to keep drafting eagles here, reason prevails as the Crickets look to start their inaugural season with a playoff run.
