Week 4 Power Rankings

It was a strange week 3 in BAFFL with points down across the league, and only 3 managers cracking the century mark. This week had a bit of everything, bottom feeders with massive redemptions, pre-season contenders returning to dominance, and starting RBs going down to injury. The Browns bounced back from a horrible week 2 loss, and so too can your team no matter what your record is (unless you’re #14).

#1 – AA Magikarps (+1)

For the second week in a row the Magikarps looked back in form and every bit like the preseason BAFFL favourite to repeat as champs. Oddly, they did so with below average performances from McCaffrey and Kupp, and another stinker from Austin Ekeler and Mike Williams. None of that mattered on Sunday, as Jalen Hurts and the Philly D led the way for the Karps in a beat down of the Spa Lords.

#2 – McFavres (+1)

The McFavres are 3-0 and well on their way to accomplishing their season goal: avoiding Chomps. The McFavres didn’t score too many points this week – but there’s no concern for GM Snider as this was simply a case of a team playing down to their competition. Tyreek Hill had an off week but he will absolutely be fine, and Jamaal Williams will be an excellent play over the next few weeks with Swift on the sidelines.

#3 – EB Angry Birdz (-2)

The Birdz dropped their first game of the season and the cracks in the roster are beginning to show. Kyler Murray sucks, Joe Mixon is averaging 3 yards per carry and got hurt, and Jonathon Taylor continues to struggle. Miles Sanders has come back to earth and it seems week 1 was an aberration, as Jalen Hurts might continue to render him useless in the red zone. GMGrove opined that losing felt terrible and “why would people do this?” He might want to get used to it, as the crystal ball sees many more losses in the future.

#4 – Aconitum Wolves (+3)

The Wolves pulled out a Monday night comeback on the back of a CeeDee Lamb 18 pt night, but all the credit in this victory goes to Lamar Jackson, who put up a 40 burger to make up for a horrible showing from the starting WR and TEs, and -4 points from the chargers D. The core of this team might be one of the strongest in the league, if the Wolves can figure out some complimentary pieces, they could be well on their way to competing for a title.

#5 – Crevasse Cheeks (+4)

The Cheeks continue their ascent up the BAFFL power rankings after starting the season at the very bottom, with a convincing takedown of the BIG GUYs in week 3. They did this despite a combined 5.9 points from Darrell Henderson and Aaron Jones. Jones should bounce back after a tough outing against the Tampa D, but the Cheeks may want to look for other options as the flex as the rams backfield may be a tough one to predict all year.

#6 – Pepsiland Pontooners (+6)

The pontooners are BACK and the biggest mover in this week’s power rankings. The treasurer put up the most points in BAFFL this week, despite 8 points from starting QB Carson Wentz. Derrick Henry put up a monster game, Dameon Pierce is the guy in Houston, and Travis Kelce gives the ‘Tooners an advantage over everyone at the position except the Cheeks. Pair that with excellent performances of their starting WRs and Chase Edmonds and you can see why this team made a big move up the power rankings despite sitting at 1-2.

#7 – Delamere Dawgpound (+4)

The Dawgpound knocked off the Angry Birdz with solid performances from top to bottom in their lineup, with the exception of Darren Waller who put up a dud. Zeke had his best game of the season by a mile, and help is on the way soon with DeAndre Hopkins coming back in 4 weeks. If the Dawgpound can tread water until then, they might be in the mix for a playoff spot.

#8 – Creek Crossing Sharks (+5)

The Sharks are 2-1 after a beatdown of the Voldemorts in week 3, despite missing Chris Godwin and Mike Evans for this game. The sharks are absolutely stacked at WR with St. Brown, Olave, Moore, and the TB duo, and to everyone’s surprise Cordarelle Patterson is the RB4 on the season. Pitts had a bounce back game but is still a solid tier below Andrews/Kelce, and Etienne continues to play a distant second to James Robinson in Jacksonville. Amon-Ra St. Brown appeared to be banged up in the game Sunday, if he misses any time or is playing hurt it could be a serious blow to the Sharks playoff chances.

#9 – Moustache Mystics (+1)

The Mystics put up one of the highest scores of losing teams this week and fell to 1-2 thanks to a big game from CeeDee Lamb on Monday night. James Robinson had a monster game, but the mystics were let down by some poor roster decisions leaving 47 points on the bench between Njoku and Devonta Smith. The Mystics will look to get back to .500 in a winnable matchup against the Sharks in week 4.

#10 – Minoterie BIG GUYs (-6)

Week 3 gave the league a preview of what the BIG GUYs look like if he gets even an average performance from Allen and Diggs, and it’s not pretty. David Montgomery went down to injury, AJ Dillon is serviceable but a backup RB, and JK Dobbins is going to be tough to trust in a 4-5 man RB committee where Lamar Jackson is the top option by a country mile. This team is a Diggs or Allen injury away from becoming the first team to keep Chomps in back to back years.

#11 – DB Spa Lords (-7)

The Spa Lords have been mighty quiet in the chat after putting up another dud and falling to 1-2 on the season. Mahomes struggled for the second week in a row and his team looks void of weapons outside of Travis Kelce. Michael Thomas got hurt and appeared to be a distant second to Olave when healthy, and in a worst case scenario Dalvin Cook got hurt but not enough to miss time, so he may be in for more of a timeshare with Mattison. If the Spa Lords lose to the Wolves this week, look for lots of talk in the chat about how he doesn’t play to actually win and is just glad his friends are having fun.

#12 – Essex Offenders (-7)

It was a disastrous week 3 for the Offenders in what looked like a slam dunk matchup against the 0-2 pontooners. Justin Jefferson had an absolute dud, but there’s no real reason to be concerned there and he should bounce back. On the other hand, Matt Stafford continues to struggle mightily, DeAndre Swift went down to injury, and Michael Pittman didn’t look right coming back from injury despite a respectable stat line. The Offenders draw a pissed off Angry Birdz squad and are in serious danger of falling to 1-3 on the season.

#13 – Voldemorts (-5)

The voldemorts got smacked by the Sharks in week 3 and are searching for answers after another absolute dud by Alvin Kamara to start the season, who now has 12.4 points in the two games he played, and lost a fumble in this contest. Justin Herbert looks like he is playing through some serious pain and can’t be trusted in the short term, and Joe Flacco is definitely not the answer to spell him the next few games. The Voldemorts may need to start chasing touchdowns and putting Duvernay in on a weekly basis, hoping he returns one to the house.

#14 – Battle Hogz (-)

No surprises here as the Battle Hogz put up another stinker against the McFavres, who slept walked to a 3-0 start. DJ Moore is droppable, Allen Robinson looks horrendous, and James Conner is averaging 3 YPC on a brutal offense but this time without the touchdowns to make up for it. Christian Kirk is literally the only thing this team has going for it, though they might get a boost from Khalil Herbert, although initial prognosis seems to be Montgomery’s injury isn’t too serious. GM Corey should just start scouting out chomps bowl matchups and try to build his team around winning one week to keep him from owning the fish.
